Wood Preservation Methods
Wood science is the study of wood as a material that is renewable and of biological origin. Wood technology is now the way the tools are utilized in the processes of wood preservation. Other products are put alongside wood for easy testing and study. Materials properties, ease of it being worked on and its value are among the few properties which are compared against those of wood and other materials. The utilization of technology gives wood an upper hand in most of this comparison. Wood can be applied in very many applications, and this gives it an upper hand over other materials. Wood is renewable, and this makes it more precious. Timber can be utilized in very many applications, and this makes it more valuable.
Protection of wooden structure and products is a must if you want to keep the good looks in place. This protection is from moisture and insects which are the biggest threat to wood. The rotting and decay of the timber products are caused by the moisture and the insects. There are many ways timber is treated among them being the ACQ in other words alkaline copper Quaternary. This is a copper-based preservative that is applied to the wood for protection. Although being a good method to use for wood protection it has presents some few challenges. It has been seen corroding most metals for example aluminum in less than six months of its application. The species of the wood and the application of the wood will determine how many chemicals will be used on the wood. Timber being used around a water body will be dipped in a more saturated fluid than that being used above ground.
Many methods are being invented to protect the wood, and one of them is the copper metal method. This method is being accepted fast because is friendly to wooden fasteners. An alternative name to be given to this method is the micronized copper wood preservative method. The copper metal is applied to the wood as small microscopic particles injected into the wood at high pressure. In other copper-based preservation methods copper is dissolved in chemicals while in this method copper is driven into the wood as a metal. This process is highly effective and the wood properties and heightened. The wood products protected using this method last longer.
Termites cannot eat through timber treated through this method. It has also shown to be an improvement in corrosion resistant properties to metal fasteners. When you use this method to treat wood, then you will not need to worry for at least ten years.
